GK to Honor WWII Vets in On-Course Ceremony

(September 23, 2011) America would be a vastly different place today if our nation did not rise up and meet the challenge of World War II some 70 years ago. Our WWII veterans, those who stepped up and risked their lives to preserve our freedom, are today in ever-declining numbers. The GK 2011 will honor several of these special veterans - all from New Britain - in a pre-golf ceremonial tee-off at 11:30 a.m. at Timberlin Golf Club following the singing of our National Anthem by New Britain-based vocalist Judy Adolewski-Lentini. Those scheduled to be honored include Al Wojtera, Francis "Chet" Giorgetti, Leo Piccoli, Gene Leganza and Andy Symecko - four of whom were born and raised in the Hardware City and all of whom made their lives there. New Britain's own Dattco Bus Co. has graciously agreed to provide complimentary transportation to and from Timberlin for these New Britain heroes, who will be guests of the GK at the post-golf BBQ at the VFW in New Britain. Final details of this special event will be announced next week - stay tuned.

Veterans Ceremonies, BBQ Feast and More

(September 16, 2011) Details for the GK on October 1 are being finalized - and what a party it will be! Though the golf tournament proper is sold out, we invite non-golfers to attend our post-golf BBQ at the VFW Post #511 in New Britain, starting at approximately 5-5:30 p.m. when the first golfers will be arriving following play. Entry is $20, cash or check at the door, which includes a BBQ dinner (featuring hamburgs, chicken, Cappy Dogs and more while it lasts!), a terrific raffle and a special veterans ceremony at 6 p.m., including flags carried by the New Britain High School Junior ROTC color guard, the playing of taps, the Pledge of Allegiance led by Northwestern Veterans, T.G.M. Memorial Post Commander Bill Kochanowski, and remarks by New Britain Mayor Tim Stewart and DAV, Hardware City Chapter Commander Ron Pelletier. If you plan on attending, please contact Dennis Buden so we can adequately estimate our crowd. Don't miss it!

Two words: SOLD OUT!

(September 16, 2011) The 80-player field for the GK is now officially sold out! A big thank you goes to all the captains for getting their foursomes together early and collecting the checks! We are still accepting names for our waiting list - if you are interested in playing, contact Tournament Director Dennis Buden for the latest updates.

Cappy Dogs at the GK!

(September 9, 2011) More sponsors kicked in this week to support the GK, among them the venerable hot dog king Capitol Lunch in Downtown New Britain. And why not? You can't have a golf tournament celebrating New Britain veterans and the city's heritage without those dogs with the famous sauce! Gus, Art and his crew have also been kind enough to donate a large vat of that very sauce for the post-golf barbeque at the VFW in New Britain. Can you smell those chopped onions? We also welcome new sponsors D&H Electrical Consultants, Inc., and Buden Tax Consulting. Thanks to Mark Drivdahl and Rob Buden for your ongoing help and support.

More Sponsors Join the Fold
