DAV Directs GK Proceeds to Local Vets
(November 7, 2012) The Hardware City Chapter of the Disabled American Veterans, one of three beneficiaries of the 2012 Golden Kielbasa Veterans Open, has announced that it will partner with the Community Foundation of Greater New Britain (CFGNB) by directing $3,500 of its GK proceeds to CFGNB's Catalyst Fund effort to aid New Britain-area veterans in need. “Our mission is to build better lives for veterans, and as a local DAV chapter, our focus is on supporting and helping vets in our community,” said Hardware City DAV Commander Ron Pelletier. “When we learned of this year’s Catalyst Fund focus on veterans, our common goal was obvious and it made all the sense in the world to pool resources so we can help as many local vets as we can.” With the added DAV donation, the Catalyst Fund will award a $13,500 grant this month to an organization or project helping local vets. Purple Heart Homes Co-Founder and Iraq War Hero Dale Beatty to Play in GK 2012

(September 19, 2012) Dale Beatty, the advocate for disabled veterans and co-founder of Purple Heart Homes who lost both of his legs below the knee during Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2004, will be among the special guests to be on hand and play in the Golden Kielbasa Veterans Open charity golf tournament at Timberlin Golf Club. Beatty, featured on the cover of TIME Magazine in August, 2011 (left) as part of America's "New" Greatest Generation, served in all positions of a Field Artillery Unit until 2003 when he was selected to become the full time National Guard Readiness NCO for the Statesville Unit. In 2004, SSG Beatty was deployed to Iraq where his unit was attached directly to the 1st Infantry Division near Bayji, Iraq. While on a patrol route that was littered with highly active insurgent operations, the vehicle Beatty was riding in was ripped apart by anti-tank mines.
