Kevin Creed spearheads the Friends of Fisher House Connecticut effort - is on borad for Year No. 3. Thanks to these and all of our wonderful supporters!
Big Doings for House of Heroes, Fisher House
(August 22, 2015) It is an exciting time for both of the Golden Kielbasa Veterans Open's major veterans charities, House of Heroes and Friends of Fisher House Connecticut. House of Heroes, which this summer celebrated its 50th veterans home renovation in Connecticut, is embarking on a major expansion and national promotion of its veterans service program thanks to Stanley Tools. Partnering with House of Heroes, Stanley will award five veterans home renovation projects nationwide valued at up to $10,000 each as part of the Stanley Build Your America program. Nominate your hometown hero by clicking here. While on Stanley's Build Your America site, you can also read stories and watch compelling videos about some of the veterans and their families that House of Heroes has helped. On the Fisher House front, a major milestone was recently reached as the Friends of Fisher House Connecticut presented a $1 million check to the Fisher House Foundation, giving the green light to begin building the West Haven Fisher House. Groundbreaking for the project is imminent and will take place this fall. Click here to learn more. Tomasso, Whitson's, Bourdon Forge On Board
(August 9, 2015) The Golden Kielbasa keeps on truckin' - and bringing along with it more and more sponsors who want to show their support of Connecticut vets. For the first time, the GK has added a third Platinum Sponsor - New Britain-based The Tomasso Group. The Tomasso Group, which includes TBI Construction Company, LLC, Tunxis Management Company and Tunxis Plantation Golf Course and Banquet Facilities, is the modern-day outgrowth of the legendary Angelo Tomasso, Inc. construction company formed by Angelo Tomasso, Sr. in the early 1900s. The company has long been a supporter of community and veterans causes. Whitson's School Nutrition, a community-minded company that holds the food service contract for the Consolidated School District of New Britain, is new to the GK fold as a Gold Sponsor following its support of DAV Chapter 8's Wreaths Across America project in 2014. And Bourdon Forge of Middletown, a custom parachute and safety hardware manufacturer serving many industries including military contractors, is back on board for the second year in a row as a Silver Sponsor. Thank you to our newest sponsors!
Iwo Jima War Heroes to be Honored at GK
(July 2, 2015) Commemorating the 70th anniversary year of the end of World War II and the Battle of Iwo Jima, the bloodiest battle in Marine history, the 2015 Golden Kielbasa Veterans Open will honor three New Britain sons who served our country heroically in that fateful battle. Post-golf ceremonies honoring Stan Dabrowski, Joe Roman and the late Ray Greene promise to be among the most stirring in tournament history. Dabrowski was a medical corpsman with the 28th Marine Regiment, Roman a radio operator with the Third Joint Assault Signal Company and Greene a U.S. Navy aerial gunner and dive bomber. All three had war experiences not for the faint of heart, and all three went on to live distinguished lives in the Hardware City. Register today for the Golden Kielbasa and ensure your place at this not-to-be-missed event. Click here to read the official news announcement. Click here to learn more about our 2015 heroes. New Britain Mourns Loss of Raymond Greene
(May 5, 2015) He was a storyteller. A teacher. An artist. A historian. A singer. And he was a World War II hero, having served as a U.S. Navy aerial gunner in the skies above Iwo Jima during
World War II. But most of all Raymond Greene was a son of New Britain, and a friend to all who knew him. The Hardware City lost Mr. Greene on April 22 and the sadness remains palpable. During this 70th anniversary year of the famous World War II battle that played such an important role in World War II, the loss of Mr. Greene is especially hard. DAV Chapter 8 and the Golden Kielbasa Veterans Open offer heartfelt condolences to Mr. Greene's family. Read more about this remarkable man in this New Britain Herald story...
Stanley, Starlight Program Return as Sponsors

(May 5, 2015) Setting the stage for what promises to be the biggest and best Golden Kielbasa Veterans Open ever, confirmation has come that two of the tournament's biggest corporate supporters have recommitted to sponsoring the 2015 event. The Golden Kielbasa Veterans Open is pleased to welcome back Stanley Black & Decker and The Starlight Program at Stonington Institute as Platinum Sponsors. This is the third straight year that Stanley Black & Decker is on board the GK train, and they are once again supporting veterans in the very community in which Frederick Stanley first started making hand tools in 1843. The Starlight Program is back for its second go-round; the North Stonington-based program is dedicated to serving active duty military members and veterans whose lives have changed and become unmanageable due to significant substance abuse, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and mental health issues. The Golden Kielbasa Veterans Open is pleased and proud to have these distinguished community friends back on board - thank you!
